Bloody Mary: The Perfect Drink?

Lately, I've been on a Bloody Mary kick. Its a great all-purpose drink. It's salty, spicy, and delicious. It has tomato juice for nutritional value. According to my V-8 container, one glass contains two servings of vegetables, and I put lemon and lime juice in mine as well. Best of all, your allowed to have one with breakfast. That covers all my criteria for a great drink.

I try not to buy pre-made mixes because they come with MSG and preservatives. I've been tinkering with some other recipes, and I've put together my favorite Bloody Mary recipe. Its pretty flavorful and spicy, but feel free to tone it down to your tastes.

Grace's Spicy, Spicy Bloody Mary
3 cups Spicy V-8
1 lemon, juiced (4 tablespoons)
1/2 lime, juiced (2 tablespoons)
1 large clove of garlic, finely minced
1 tablespoon plus 2 teaspoons Worcestershire Sauce
1 teaspoon extra-hot horseradish
1 1/2 teaspoons Tabasco
ground pepper to taste

Put it all in blender and blend. Chill. Serve with vodka.

Possible garnishes:
celery
olives
pickled green beans
pickled okra
lemon wedge
lime wedge
sprinkling of ground pepper

I'm going to try it. But I'll likely be having mine for lunch as I've had trouble waking up in time for breakfast lately.

Not an alcoholic drink but if you like Bloody Marys, Gazpacho is a great summer soup and supremely healthy.

28oz can of V8 or tomato juice
4 celery stalks
4 tomatoes
1 green pepper
1 red pepper
1 cucumber
1 Spanish onion
lots of garlic
1/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
1 jalapeño if desired

dice everything into very small pieces and combine, refrigerate overnight, serve chilled

My favorite - and especially made with V8. Yours is too spicey for me but I created my favorite mix years ago. I always prefered lime, & used a mixture of white pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, celery salt. & Texas Pete. (your fresh ingredients sounds even better) garnished with a stalk of celery. My favorite treat at Red Lobster is their 'Shipwreck Mary'.

I love gazpacho too. I've been needing a good recipe, thanks. If you're really into thick salty drinks, you might want to try Ayran. That's the Turkish name for it, but I bet the Greeks have a version with their own name. Its like drinkable yogurt with salt and lemon. You can find it at ethnic food stores. I've seen it at Russian grocery stores. Its not for everyone, but you might be ready for the next level.

That sounds like a good reason for me to go to Red Lobster. As is those garlic cheese biscuits were't reason enough!

Ilove your blog, I could read for hours to catch up if I had the time. How long have you been doing this one or is it just a continuation from when you were in China? You've had such interesting experiences, and now a teacher, we never know where our paths will lead. Is Ryan setting up a law practice? Are you posting pictures too?
